a) Setting up Appropriate Equipment
Audition Timeline
For this part of the content plan, everything stayed the same once we executed it. The show's medium, and synopsis were both accurate in how they represented the show after recording. Due to some heavy editing I was able to meet the running time for the show with a length of ten minutes for our segment.
For our music choices we made a lot of changes during production. Only a few of the songs made it into the show with the rest being removed from the playlist. Each song was only given a rough segment of 20-30 seconds. The order that they were played in remained the same. Due to the script we had to make sure each song was played after the presenter talked about it.
We successfully planned out the type of guests that we wanted for the show with little need for improvisation when including them into the script. Our target goals for the kind of stories that we wanted to report on e.g. celebrities and pop culture along with the weather/travel news in Cambridge.
For our running order the show did not change at all chronologically. What did change was the amount of time that I gave to each segment. When recording the show we went overtime with the amount of content that we had. In order to meet our running time successfully I decided to cut down a few of the segments in a way that still made sense for the show and was not noticeable for audio listeners.
In these two screenshot of audition you can see the before and after effect of how big the files were after I cut them down. By cutting down the audio files I was able to make a lot more space for everything else, meaning that I was able to meet the running time deadline.
c) Following Safe Working Practices
When setting up all of our recording equipment for the show, we made sure to keep all of our electrical equipment away from wet, damp, humid and dusty conditions, so as to avoid any fire/electrical hazards. All of the equipment was set up carefully and treated with respect. Everything was set up on a solid surface with zero risk of anything getting knocked over. We also made sure that there was no food or drink next to any of the equipment whilst recording and that everything was perfectly laid out around the table, giving us enough space to use it. All members of the group had a decent general knowledge of how to work with the equipment and use it competently to record the show successfully. All of the wiring and electrical cords were laid out neatly to avoid any trip hazards.
d) Following Production Process
My role in this unit is the Assistant Producer for the News segment and the package segment of the Radio Show. As the Assistant Producer for both the news team and the package team, I had double the about of roles than I normally would have. The responsibilities for this role included putting together the scripts for both teams by researching information on each of the topics. For example I did a lot research on local news stories in Cambridgeshire as well as celebrity news in modern day pop-culture. I helped the rest of my team write each script and made sure that they were accurate to the date and time that we would be reporting on them. The content for the scripts had to be relevant by the time that we broadcast the show so that we would not confuse any listeners by reporting on a story from a month ago. I also had to work on the sound bites and the vox pops for the News sweepers that would introduce the news segment in the show. The news reader Josiah Spencer recorded my own voice as a part of the vox pops and I then edited them later on Adobe Audition. Working in the group was more of a team effort rather than us all working separately. We all helped each other out and made sure that everyone knew their role and what they needed to do.
